Asian Center Events Celebrate Culture, Improve Health

The Asian Community & Cultural Center supports and empowers all refugees and immigrants through programs and services and advances the sharing of Asian culture and the other cultural heritages of their clients with the community at large. In addition to the culturally specific outreach and services for Asians, the ACCC also provides programs and support for Sudanese, Afghan, Yezidi, and other Central Asian/Middle Eastern families that speak Arabic.

The ACCC works to provide opportunities to bring people together to learn about, recognize, and celebrate their unique cultural and ethnic origins and share them with the community at large to foster understanding. In addition to monthly cultural bazaars, the ACCC also works to improve the health of those they serve, recently hosting a Q & A about COVID vaccinations for the Sudanese community with UNMC infectious disease expert, and Sudanese advocate, Dr. Nada Fadul on March 11.  Co-sponsored by the Lincoln Lancaster County Health Dept., the Salvation Army, and Partnership for a Healthy Lincoln, the Q & A was followed by a flu and COVID vaccination clinic open to everyone in Lincoln. On March 19th, the ACCC hosted a large Health Fair at Antelope Park.

Asian American Pacific Islander Heritage Month Celebration

The Asian Community & Cultural Center hosts two major cultural events a year, the Harvest Moon festival in the fall, and the upcoming Asian American Pacific Islander (AAPI) Heritage Month Celebration.  The AAPI Celebration is a nationwide cultural event to honor the contributions of Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders. Open to the entire Lincoln community, the event helps to build a mutual understanding and cultural appreciation between the clients served by the ACCC and Lincoln residents.

The 2023 AAPI Heritage Celebration is scheduled for April 30th, from 1-4 PM at the Lancaster Event Center, Lincoln Room. The celebration will include an exhibition of 10-12 cultures, traditional performances, cultural activities, fun games, live music, Asian cuisine tasting, free health screenings, and as well as exhibitors who will provide information about their services.  The event is sponsored by Southeast Community College, Tobacco Free Lancaster County, Allo Fiber, Nebraska Arts Council, Bryan Health, and the Nebraska Cultural Endowment.

For questions, more information, or exhibit at the event, email Rebecca Reinhardt or call the Asian Center at 402-477-3446.
