NeighborWorks Lincoln (NWL) is a nonprofit organization with the mission to improve lives by expanding affordable housing opportunities and strengthening neighborhoods. Throughout the organization’s 37 years of service to Lincoln, NWL has become a local leader in the community development sector and the preeminent facilitator of affordable homeownership opportunities. This is achieved through three program areas that work together to support neighborhood stabilization:

  • Community Building and Engagement: Empowering strong resident leadership through collaboration with city departments and community partners;
  • Homeownership and Homebuyer Education: Facilitating sustainable homeownership through homebuyer education and assistance; and
  • Real Estate Development: Developing desirable housing for economically diverse clientele throughout the city.

NWL is located at 2530 Q Street in the Malone-Hawley neighborhood, a focus area for the NWL Community Building and Engagement (CB+E) team. By implementing a holistic approach known as Comprehensive Community Development (CCD) over the last year, the CB+E team is now ready to take lessons learned to another neighborhood.

The new focus area spans from 17th to 27th Streets, from “O” to “D” Streets, and includes portions of Capitol View, Woods Park, and Downtown neighborhoods. The CB+E team will spend the next several months canvassing and getting to know the residents who call this area home. They will also complete a Community Impact Measurement (CIM) survey to collect resident experiences and perceptions and conduct street and block observations. This data will be analyzed, compared, and shared over the next several years.

In June, NWL will join NeighborWorks America and the nearly 250 other NeighborWorks network organizations serving communities across the country to celebrate National NeighborWorks Week. Every year, thousands of residents, businesses, and elected and civic leaders nationwide participate in local celebrations of the impact NeighborWorks organizations have in their respective communities. This year, NWL is excited to invite the Lincoln community to two events during NeighborWorks Week.
